What is the Student Survey?
The Upbeat Student Survey is a research-backed instrument designed to capture how students experience the conditions that shape learning — belonging, voice, safety, teacher care, and academic purpose. It's built on the same evidence-based framework that underpins the Upbeat K-12 Engagement Survey, validated across 803 schools and 26 districts (Hanson & Kraft, 2024).
Most student surveys ask broad questions about school climate. Upbeat's instrument is different: every domain has a deliberate counterpart in the staff survey, so leaders can see whether what teachers say about working conditions matches what students say about learning conditions — and act on the gaps.
